About
I'm Orestes Garcia, an enterprise architect in Miami. og.rsts.dev is where I write field notes from inside a regulated bank.
What I write about
Most of the past year circles a few arguments. That the controls banking built for people and predictable models don't fit agents: least agency, not least privilege, and an examiner regime written for models that don't argue back. That the durable value in AI development is the harness and the environment around the model, not the model you rent. That when a platform opens one layer, the lock-in moves up to the next. That the model was never the problem; the context and data layer underneath it is. And that as the work changes, judgment is the part that survives. Two threads run through most of it: The Regulated AI Stack and Platform Strategy & Vendor Economics.
The other half
A year of loss in 2025 reordered everything toward relationships over achievement. Not as a slogan. As the thing that was left. A lot of what I write now sits on that seam: three adult children meeting the same AI shift from three different angles, a craft I spent thirty-five years learning that a machine now does in seconds, and the enterprise-architect habit of treating a life like a system with reconciliation loops. I'm not a philosopher or a psychologist. I'm an architect who thinks responsibility, meaning, and strength built through action are load-bearing.
Background
Cuban-born electronic engineer. I studied at the University of Havana, did graduate work at Nova Southeastern University, arrived in the US in 1996 with nothing, and rebuilt from there. Twenty-plus years in financial services, now leading enterprise architecture in Miami. Along the way I build my own tools, including Claude Buddy, open-source tooling for Claude Code.
